2026: The Kaivoksela Bench in Vantaa
Gems & Gears began in early 2026 in an understated studio on Kaivokselantie in Vantaa. Having spent twelve years as an apprentice and bench jeweler for traditional Finnish jewelry retailers, founder Mikko Lindqvist noticed a concerning industry trend: mass-market jewelry was increasingly hollowed out, gold plating was marketed deceptively as solid precious metal, and synthetic materials were sold without clear disclosure.
Mikko invested in a classic European workbench, optical microscopes, and laser engraving instruments to establish Gems & Gears. His promise was simple: every customer deserves to know the precise karat weight, alloy composition, and origin of what they wear.
